Residential  /  Resources  /  Planning  /  Inspiration  /  Q&A WITH 2017 PERLICK AMBASSADOR OF COOL ARIANNE BELLIZAIRE

April 5, 2017

The judges have spoken! Perlick has chosen Baton Rouge-based designer Arianne Bellizaire as the company's 2017 Ambassador of Cool! Arianne is the face of Perlick's 100 year anniversary and will collaborate on digital media for Perlick's award-winning residential undercounter refrigeration. She'll also be an integral part of Perlick's biggest announcement to date at the end of the year.

We had a chance to sit down with Arianne and talk about design, trends, and her plans for 2017. Read on to see the exclusive interview:

As a rising star in the design space, you have put a great deal of effort into developing your own personal style. Can you describe how you see yourself influencing the interior design industry now and in the future?

Over the years, I’ve definitely refined my personal design style which is heavily influenced by my love of color, travel and art. The relationships I’ve made with my clients, other design professionals and product developers has given me the opportunity see the world of design from many different perspectives and to use my platform to advocate on behalf of all three entities depending on the situation.

My understanding of each of these points of view allows me to communicate the needs of each group cogently, and my hope is that, I can continue to be a conduit for the exchange of ideas so that the design industry continues to propel itself forward while remaining relevant.

You currently live in Baton Rouge. How does this city help inspire your design POV?

I was born and raised in the south, so I am a Southern Girl at heart! Family gatherings are an integral part of our culture so when I design a space, I’m always thinking about how the client is going to be able to navigate through that space not only on a daily basis but also when the inevitable family function comes up!

My approach to each project is to design a space that is elevated yet livable. I focus on optimal space planning, selecting appliances that can handle a large celebration as easily as the typical family meal, and of course, bringing in stain-resistant fabrics for seating!

How would you describe your design aesthetic? Is there a signature touch you put on your designs?

I would say that my style is a slightly modern twist on the classics with hints of global influences and splashes of bold color!

My signature touch isn’t one specific thing but more of a feeling. I love to create spaces that are so inviting that the person walking into the room just wants to come and settle in for a while. Comfort is key!

You consider yourself a style-educator. Tell us what that means to you and how it transfers to your clients and the design community at large.

I started calling myself a style educator when I first started writing my blog in 2013. Having two communication degrees (Bachelor’s in Mass Communications and Masters in Political Communications) I’m a trained communicator, and I love to break down complicated concepts in a way that is easy for the reader or viewer to understand.

Design can be a bit mysterious and illusive to the lay person. One of the things I’ve learned is that, whether a consumer is going the DIY route or they are going to be working with a design professional, a basic understanding of design principles helps everyone in the long run!

Writing my blog (Inspired to Style), shooting videos and sharing behind-the-scenes looks from industry events on social media is not only a creative outlet for me, but it is also an opportunity to give the reader, viewer or follower an appreciation for the complexity of design AND for the amazing talent and skill that is required for designers to do what they do.

As a design curator and style spotter, what are your top kitchen design trends for 2017?

I was so excited to see that one of the big trends to come out of KBIS 2017 was COLOR! We saw manufacturers offer bold color options in everything from faucets to range ovens!

The next big trend was seamless integration. In response to the growing need for small space design, many manufacturers are outfitting their products with features that help to minimize product’s footprint and maximize the client’s usable space!

You created a design video for your blog showcasing your Perlick Dream Kitchen. Tell us about the importance appliances play when designing a home kitchen.

Space planning is really are where it all starts in terms of kitchen space planning. When approaching a kitchen design, whether it’s new construction or a renovation, the key is to understand how the client wants to use the space.

The next step is to identify the appliances and products that will help the client achieve their desired function and then to arrange them in a way works best for the primary user.

Materials, lighting and fabrics tie everything together into a space that is not only highly functional but also beautiful!

Now that you’ve been named Perlick’s Ambassador of Cool for 2017, what are your plans to help elevate the brand’s design focus?

I am honored to be named as Perlick’s Ambassador of Cool for 2017, and I can’t wait to begin working with this amazing company to spread the word about all of the ways Perlick products can be seamlessly integrated into the home to create an entertainer’s paradise!
