Perlick Improves Quality, Keeps Prices Down, and Delivers
Best Lead Times in the Industry with Lean Initiatives

MILWAUKEE, WI – June 29, 2007 – Perlick Corporation, a total package bar equipment, refrigeration equipment and beer system provider has added lean manufacturing and automated processes to keep prices down, improve on its already highest quality products, and deliver the best lead times in the industry.

“Perlick is the first of its kind in the world to utilize a Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) that consists of two (2) fully automated lasers, (a fully automated flexible machining system), a fully automated punch/sheer machine, and a fully automated tower which stores and feeds all of our sheet metal,” states Fred Luehrs, General Manager, Operations. “The FMS produces virtually all of the sheet metal parts that are then assembled to make our products,” he adds.

The system is capable of running on a “lights out basis,” both on evenings and weekends. This is part of the investment that Perlick has made to reduce lead times to the lowest in the industry. Perlick is moving to a “build-to-order” manufacturing system which will have a standard lead time of less than 10 days. “This is extremely important to our customers who are often under tight time constraints due to construction schedules for both new buildings and renovation projects,” states Luehrs. “Perlick can meet their needs and we believe we have the best quality product and the best lead times in the industry. And we’ve been able to deliver all packaged system configurations including custom refrigeration equipment, bar equipment and beer systems, in much reduced lead times, generally under four weeks,” says Luehrs. Lean implementation throughout the plant allows Perlick to reduce its inventory, improve its lead times, and reduce its costs.
